Auditioning for a Play
Auditioning for a play is always stressful, and usually nervewracking. Whether it's for a drama, comedy, tragedy, or musical, it's alway tough. But as I learned this week, while auditioning for Bye Bye Birdie, (fingers crossed that I get the part) musicals are usually the msot stressful and the most work. We had three different audition days. One for acting, one for dancing, and one for singing. Each of them lasted around three hours, depending on when they called the people auditioning for your part. By the end of each day I had a massive headache, and didn't feel like doing much else, but I also felt like i had accomplished something just by auditioning. I also have to say that dance auditions are the hardest. You have about a half hour to learn a dance routine that they show you. Then you go and wait outside while they call you in. I did pretty well in acting and singing, but I must say I totally bombed my dance audition. That right there could mess the whole thing up for me. So make sure if you are auditioning for a musical you can also sing and dance. It's also a good idea to read the whole script for the play at least once through, because then you familiarize yourself with the plotline and the characters. I certainly wish I had done that. But come tomorrow I will find out if I did good enough to get the part or not. Look for my post around 3:30ish, but it might not be till as late as 6.

Acting- Is it for you?
Acting isn't for everyone. It's alot of work, and you have to love acting in order to be good at it. It's not like a job you can hate and be good at. If you hate acting you are going to suck. But if you love acting, if you truly have a passion for acting, then you have potential for greatness. But with acting, you have to go above and beyond. Rehearsals can consume so much of your time, and if you aren't enjoying them, it affects your state of mind on stage. To truly be a great actor it can't be something you want to do. it has to be something you need to do. If you want to have success as an actor it has to be as natural as breathing, it has to be something you need in order to survive. Acting also requires commitment, as I mentioned earlier, rehearsals can take a big chunk of time. If it's for a play it could take two maybe three hours a day five days a week. Television is a completely different story, if you wanna be on television plan on putting alot of your life aside, cuz it can take ten hours a day seven days a week sometimes. So if you aren't commited to it, if it isn't as essential to you as breathing, then is acting for you? Probably not as a career. But you can still have enormous fun acting, and stepping out of yourself into a whole new world.
